The village of Tiksi is located near the confluence of the Lena River and the Laptev Sea. In Soviet times, it was an important seaport and was part of the Northern Sea Route. The military airport located there was home to long-range aviation.

To get to this village you need to have a special permit to visit the border zone. This permission is issued in advance at the border service of the federal security service. Without this permission, it is forbidden to be on the territory of the village.

There are three ways to get to Tiksi - by plane, by boat and by winter road.

The first way is the simplest one - by plane. Yakutia Airlines regularly operates here from the capital of the Sakha Republic. Be aware that there are extended periods of non-flying weather in February-March. A blizzard here can last for weeks and sometimes you have to wait for a very long time to fly out.

From Yakutsk to Tiksi, the only motor ship “Mechanic Kulibin” runs every navigation. It is not always easy to get tickets for it. Especially at the beginning and at the end of the season. Usually, the first time a motor ship arrives in Tiksi is at the beginning of July - until that time the ice situation does not allow. The last time the ship visits Tiksi is usually in mid-September.

The third way is by road, the most extreme one. After the New Year, local residents usually "break through" the winter road to take the autumn catch of fish to Yakutsk. On the way back, you can try to negotiate with them. Even on a prepared SUV alone, this path is insurmountable. Only a column of four-wheel drive "Ural" and "KAMAZ" vehicles go on the winter road.
