Prague has always differed from European cities primarily in architecture - Gothic, bold design solutions. One of the main attractions of this plan is the Dancing House in Prague. It does not look like any of the unusual buildings, its design is complex and attractive at the same time, the idea of the building is based on an unusual idea - a man and a woman.

The Dancing House in Prague is a frozen moment of the dance of a man and a woman. The building-museum is a unique attraction not only of the city, but of Europe as a whole, consists of two parts, one of which residents call Fred, and the other Ginger. The lady passionately presses herself against the gentleman, and he carefully supports her - this is how the house looks like. The unusual building has other names, for example, "drunken house", "glass", "Ginger and Fred". Its stylistic solution can be attributed to a rather rare direction of architecture - deconstructivism, which is based on irregular shapes, visual complexity, and lack of geometry.

History of the Dancing House in Prague

During the Second World War, a bomb hit the place where this house is now, and for almost half a century after that it was empty. The decision to fill the empty territory, erase the traces of the most terrible military conflict in the history of Europe, was made by Vaclav Havel, who became president of the Czech Republic at the end of the 20th century. From many projects, he chose a non-standard solution by architects Frank Gehry and Vlad Mulinich. What influenced his choice is not known for certain, but it is believed that he was attracted by the following features:

  • all rooms of the house have different shapes,
  • the straight tower expands at the top,
  • the possibility of building everything within 2 years.

The Dancing House has real prototypes - dancers Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. It was their photo that inspired the creators of the project to make such a daring decision. The construction and finishing works of this unique piece of Prague architecture were personally overseen by President Havel.

The exact address of the Dancing House and excursions in it

At the moment, the building has been converted into offices, and even its basement floor. But tourists also have something to see in it, there are daily excursions - both inside the building (on its 1st floor) and next to it.

Does not necessarily become a member of the excursion group. Guests of the city can look at the Dancing House for themselves, located in the Prague 2 district, at the intersection of the embankment and Resslova Street. Moreover, you can stay in the house - since 2016, the Dancing House Hotel has been operating in the building.

Connoisseurs of recreation in Prague still recommend signing up for one of the excursions, which are conducted by professional guides in the Dancing House. Their schedule can be found on the official website or directly when visiting the attraction. For "savages" access to the building, more precisely to its first floor, is open from 10 am to 8 pm. You can climb to the roof of the "male" half of the building, where the restaurant and observation deck are located. The picture from there is fascinating, the whole city is visible.
