The distance between the two largest cities of Russia - Moscow and St. Petersburg - is about 700 kilometers. Until relatively recently, a trip from one city to another was a real trip for several days. Everything has changed with the development of transport - rail, road, especially air. Now the trip from Moscow to St. Petersburg (and back) takes relatively little time. But if you have the opportunity and desire, it is better to go slowly, seeing the sights along the way.

A traveler who wants to get from Moscow to St. Petersburg by car must go along the Leningradskoe highway. On the way, he will pass through the territory of four regions: Moscow, Tver, Novgorod and Leningrad.

Sights of the Moscow region

In the northwest of the Moscow region, not far from its border with the Tver region, the regional center Klin is located. Guests of the city can see its sights, including the house-museum of the famous composer P. I. Tchaikovsky and the Assumption Church, built at the end of the 16th century, in memory of the inhabitants of Klin, who suffered during the oprichnina. Also worthy of attention is Sovetskaya Square, where a number of architectural monuments of the 19th century are located - the former Trading Rows, the Trinity Cathedral, the Fountain Girl-mycelium."

Attractions of the Tver region

The main city of the next region is Tver. Founded in 1135, it resisted the rule of the Horde for a long time during the Mongol-Tatar yoke, and competed with Moscow. Because of this, Tver has been repeatedly raided and destroyed. Only at the end of the 15th century, the city was finally conquered, becoming part of the Grand Duchy of Moscow.

The attention of city guests will be attracted by such attractions as the Trinity Church, the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Traveling Palace (it got its name because it was built for the rest of Empress Catherine II on the way from St. Petersburg to Moscow). Previously, this palace housed an art gallery and a local history museum. Unfortunately, it is still under reconstruction. You should definitely see the beautiful monument to Afanasy Nikitin, a Tver merchant and traveler, the author of the famous "Walking across the Three Seas".

Attractions of the Novgorod region

After leaving the Tver region, travelers enter the territory of the Novgorod region. Although the route runs a little to the side of its administrative center, the city of Veliky Novgorod, you should definitely visit it! This city, which used to be respectfully called "Mister Veliky Novgorod", has an ancient and glorious history, replete with both bright and tragic pages. Visitors to the city will be impressed by seeing its preserved Kremlin with the St. Sophia Cathedral, the magnificent Millennium of Russia monument, and many other attractions.
