In life, the most unpredictable and unlikely situations can happen - for example, getting on an uninhabited island. In order not to spend the rest of your life in the company of bananas and monkeys, you should be able to send a distress signal with the help of improvised means and their correct use.

The first and most important signals

An uninhabited island located in the middle of the ocean completely limits a person in space. You can only leave it by swimming on a makeshift raft, which can fall apart at the slightest storm, so you should wait for the plane or ship, which will be able to notice the distress signal being sent and pick up the Robinson. First of all, it is necessary to lay out giant letters S. O. S. on the beach strip, using stones, branches or a pattern in the sand for this.

A letter call for help should be posted further from the edge of the ocean, since the surf can wash away the entire distress signal in a few seconds.

It is also imperative to light at least three signal fires, which are an international distress signal - a hill or any other hill is best suited for this purpose. Bonfires should be kindled at a distance of 50 meters from each other, not on the ground itself, but on a lining of branches so that the firewood remains dry in case of rain. When an aircraft or a ship appears in sight, you need to immediately kindle a fire, if possible adding a piece of plastic or rubber to it, which smoke perfectly. If you don't have matches or a lighter at hand, you can cut a recess in dry wood, put dry grass in it, put a dry twig there and rub it until sparks appear.

Other signals

If you have a mirror or shiny metal at hand, you can send a distress signal with them, sending out intermittent sunbeams. When an airplane or ship appears, you can also actively wave your arms until people notice the person on the beach or hill. If a single-use signal rocket miraculously turned out to be on the island, you should launch it only when a possible salvation appears on the horizon - without a rocket launcher, the rocket must be set on fire and directed upward, holding it at an outstretched hand while it burns.

The bright smoke of signal flares is clearly visible from long distances and is always regarded as a distress signal.

If there is any piece of bright material on the island - a flag, a parachute, an airplane upholstery, and so on, you need to attach it to a long stick or tie it to a tree trunk that has few leaves. This makeshift flag can attract the attention of passing ships or airplanes by actively waving as they approach. If a person decides to leave the place where he gave signals, you need to leave a mark there indicating the direction in the form of an arrow or an inscription - so the rescuers will be able to understand where to look for him. Such marks should be left throughout the journey.
