Phu Quoc Island is the largest island in Vietnam, located in the Gulf of Thailand, in the south of the country. Kilometers of pristine deserted beaches, surrounded by tropical forests and mountains, attract tourists from all over the world in search of tranquility and solitude. Someone calls Phu Quoc the island of "99 mountains" because of the large number of mountain peaks, and someone calls the "pearl island" because of the sea pearl farms, which is considered one of the best not only in Vietnam, but also in the world. …

In Fukuoka, you can find hotels with equipped beaches, restaurants and bars for every taste, or you can rent a villa next to a wild beach, where you will not find a living soul for many kilometers around. If you want peace, silence, harmony with yourself and nature, then be sure to go to Phu Quoc.

Fish Sauce Factory

The world famous Nyok Mam fish sauce is prepared in many cities of Vietnam, but the most delicious is produced on the island, in any case, locals say so. The process of making the sauce is not complicated, but rather lengthy - the fish is placed in barrels, covered with a large amount of salt and kept in this state for more than a year. The resulting liquid is bottled and sold. When visiting a factory, get ready for a strong, specific scent.

Coconut prison

It was built by the French back in 1950, it housed more than 40 thousand criminals, many of them returned home after the expulsion of the French. But the worst things happened here during the war with the United States, when the Americans set up a concentration camp in Coconut Prison, in which they tortured and killed thousands of people. Now there is a museum on the territory of the prison, where everything reminds of that terrible time in the life of the country and the inhabitants of Vietnam. Here you will see barracks in which prisoners were kept, instruments of torture, photographs showing horrific atrocities. This place is not recommended for visiting with children and very impressionable people, but it will appeal to those who are interested in the history of Vietnam and the events of those years.

Black pepper plantations

Black pepper plantations are located throughout Phu Quoc Island, where special aromatic and spicy varieties grow here, which are appreciated all over the world. On large plantations, up to 400 tons of crops are harvested per year, and all the fruits are harvested by hand. The peas are harvested a little unripe, and then dried in the sun for 10 - 12 days.

While resting in Fukuoka, you can visit the Kau Palace, built in honor of the sea goddess - the patroness of sailors and fishermen. Although in our understanding it is difficult to call it a palace - something in between a temple and a lighthouse. The palace is an iconic place where locals pray for a good catch.

Phu Quoc will be very attractive for those who love diving, snorkeling and fishing. The island will also be liked by seafood lovers, which in Fukuoka can be tasted in a restaurant, a local cafe, and a night market. Fish, squids, shrimps, lobsters, crabs, sea urchins, shellfish, eel - all the freshest and most delicious.
