Millions of tourists from all over the world come to the Italian city of Verona to visit the “Juliet's house”.

History

The mansion was built in the thirteenth century and belonged to the Del Cappello family. Historians believe that Shakespeare used this particular surname to create a legendary story.

In the 17th century, the family estate was sold, and for several centuries the house changed owners. In 1907, the city authorities bought the building to create a museum in it. The mansion was reconstructed, windows and walls were renewed. Gradually, “Juliet's balcony” and a bronze statue of Romeo's beloved appeared in it. After the opening of the exposition, the museum took the form that tourists see it now.

Description

Any Veronese knows where the "Juliet's house" is - this is the main attraction of the city. Everyone can inspect the facade of the old mansion and stand under the balcony, from which the girl looked at her lover.

In the courtyard, there is a one and a half meter bronze statue of Juliet. Tourists know a funny ritual: happy love awaits those who touch a girl's chest. There are so many people who want to improve their personal life that the sculpture cracked from constant touching. The crumbling monument was moved to the museum, and a copy was installed on the street.

Tours

To get inside the house for a tour, you need to buy an entrance ticket for 6 euros. For this money, you can both inspect the rooms and arrange a romantic photo session on the balcony. By the way, inside there are boxes into which you can put a letter-message for Juliet - poems, notes, etc. Previously, they were attached to chewing gum on the wall in the courtyard, but the authorities, so that zealous tourists did not spoil the facade of the historical building, forbade them to do this … Officials even introduced a serious fine - tourists will have to pay 500 euros for violation.

The interior of the house is decorated in the spirit of the Renaissance. The walls are decorated with ancient frescoes and portraits of a couple in love. The next floor is a luxurious room with a fireplace, where, according to legend, Romeo and Juliet met for the first time. The penultimate floor houses the props from the legendary film “Romeo and Juliet” by Zefirelli, based on a play by Shakespeare.

There is a souvenir shop in the mansion, where tourists are offered nice little things and trinkets in memory of the excursion.

Working hours

The museum awaits visitors every day according to the schedule.

Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 8:30 to 19:30, Monday from 13:30 to 19:30.
