Airbus, a European aircraft manufacturer, recently delighted overweight passengers with the news that they are now more comfortable flying. On the air liners of this company, obese people will be offered special chairs, the size of which is almost 7 cm wider than standard ones.

Previously, Airbus aircraft were equipped with 180 seats, each of which was almost 45 cm wide. However, for an obese person, this width might not be enough. The prospect of spending several hours sandwiched between the armrests of the seats scared off more than one potential airline passenger.

The company's engineers, pondering this question, did not want to reduce the number of seats in the cabin, because this threatened the company with losses. As a result, it was decided to reduce the width of standard seats to 43 cm. These are the ones that are now installed on Boeing aircraft and are considered comfortable enough for long flights. By reducing the width of the rest of the seats in the row, the width of the seats for full passengers has become possible to increase to 51 cm. Now, on each flight, "weighty" passengers will be provided with 45 wide seats, in which they can comfortably sit without embarrassing themselves or their neighbors.

Such changes have become an obvious necessity, as in recent years there has been a trend towards an increase in the number of overweight passengers. The average European is taller, with wider shoulders and hips. Therefore, the idea of providing additional comfort to those who are willing to pay for it was in the air.

Following the Airbus company, several other European airlines announced their desire to equip their aircraft cabins with comfortable and wide seats for fat people, the number of these air carriers has already exceeded 20. Thus, very soon obese passengers will be able to fly around the world without discomfort. Experts highly appreciated the Airbus solution and even called it “the most civilized solution to the problem”.

And so it is. Indeed, for example, one of the largest low-cost airlines in Europe, the Irish Ryanair, has set the purchase of two seats as a condition for fat people to fly. And although Airbus provides a surcharge for the possibility of increased comfort, it will not exceed 10% of the cost of a regular seat and will not be exorbitant. And the usual "slender" passenger will not be deprived of the provided set of amenities.
