Now offhand, few can name more than one or two mountains, which can be considered really the highest. Peaks such as Everest or Anapurna are usually mentioned.

However, in fact, there are almost two dozen mountains on Earth, exceeding the height of the boundary of eight thousand meters. The so-called eight-thousanders are located in central and southern Asia. You can give a list of the most famous of them.

Rating of eight-thousanders

Anapurna is the "lowest" mountain range in the Himalayas, 8091m. In terms of height, Anapurna ranks tenth and is the first peak conquered by man. Among the mountains, this is the most dangerous massif, and the mortality rate of climbers annually is about half of the total number of ascents.

Manaslu is the highest peak of this mountain 8156 meters. It is part of the Mansiri-Himal massif. For the first time, Manaslu was conquered by a Japanese expedition in 1956. Currently, a two-week tourist route runs around the mountain, where you can climb to an altitude of 5200 meters.

Lhotse is a 8516 meter high mountain located near the Nepalese border of China with Tibet. It is part of the Maharangul-Himal mountain range. In total, Lhotse has three peaks more than eight kilometers high. For the first time, an Italian climber, Reinhold Messner, a member of the club of the conquerors of all eight-thousanders, conquered the summit.

Chogori - height 8614 m, ranks second after Chomolungma (Everest) in height. A distinctive feature of the mountain is that this eight-thousander is located to the north of all the others. It is located in the Baltoro ridge near Kashmir. Despite the fact that the mountain is inferior in height to Everest, it is much more difficult in terms of the difficulty of climbing. However, in terms of the mortality rate (25%), it is twice as low as Anapurna.

Chomolungma or Everest is the highest peak in the world - 8848 meters. Located in the Himalayas, it is part of the Mahalangur-Himal ridge. It is a kind of triangular pyramid. New Zealander Edmund Hillary was the first to climb the summit in 1953.
