The Ostankino TV Tower is an outstanding achievement of the engineering art of the second half of the 20th century. This is one of the main symbols of Moscow. With a height of about 540 meters, the TV tower occupies an honorable place among skyscrapers in the world. It should be borne in mind that all the higher structures were built later than the tower, which produced an amazing effect in the world, and their creators tried to surpass it in height.

The tower was built under the guidance of an outstanding architect and design engineer Nikolai Vasilyevich Nikitin. Its construction lasted 4 years, from 1963 to 1976. N. V. Nikitin took a very bold step: he abandoned a deep and very massive foundation, which accelerated and reduced the cost of construction. The foundation of the Ostankino TV tower is relatively shallow; this was achieved with the help of an original design. The wide, tapered tower base weighs many times the weight of the thin, tall transmitter mast, and 10 wide base feet provide relatively low ground pressure. The Ostankino TV Tower immediately began to attract many visitors. From its observation platforms, a stunning view of Moscow opened up. The sightseers were delighted, getting a lot of impressions. Many Muscovites and guests of the capital also strove to visit the Seventh Heaven restaurant, which occupied as many as three floors at an altitude of 328 to 334 meters. On August 27, 2000, a massive fire broke out in the tower. Fortunately, they managed to extinguish it, preventing the tower from collapsing. In 2008 excursions resumed. To get to them, you need to purchase entrance tickets. It should be borne in mind that if an organized group of more than 10 people wants to visit the observation deck, for example, a school class, representatives of any enterprise, social movement, etc., then tickets must be ordered in advance. This can be done by calling 8 (495) 926-61-11 or by sending an order by e-mail [email protected]. A person who wants to organize an excursion for a group of over 10 people can also make this order in person, having appeared from 10-00 to 19-00 to the administrator of the excursion building of the TV tower. Those people who wish to visit the TV tower privately or in groups of less than 10 people can purchase tickets on the first floor of the administrative building (entrance through entrance 2). Tickets are sold daily from 9:30 am to 7:30 pm. The glazed observation deck is at a height of 337 meters, the open one - at an altitude of 340 meters. Tourists get there using passenger lifts (ascent speed - 7 meters / second).
