The first restrictions on the carriage of liquids on board aircraft were introduced in 2006. This ban was imposed at many airports around the world after the UK intelligence services uncovered a conspiracy of terrorists planning to blow up planes with liquid bombs. From time to time restrictions on the carriage of liquids in carry-on baggage are tightened, as was the case during the Olympic Games in Sochi.

Rules for the carriage of liquids at Russian airports

In late March and early April 2014, all restrictions on the total ban on the transport of liquids in hand luggage, introduced in connection with the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi, were lifted. These restrictions were in effect not only on Russian territory, but also at many international airports, however, only with respect to those flights that followed to Russia. During the period of the imposed sanctions, passengers had to check in all cosmetics, medicines, aerosols, sprays and gels, regardless of their purpose and volume. After the bans are lifted, passengers should again be guided by the rules that were in effect until January 2014.

These rules stipulate that all liquids and personal hygiene products, the volume of which exceeds 100 ml, must be transported packed in baggage. But at the same time, the luggage of passengers in any case, before being loaded onto the plane, must be checked using modern technical means of inspection, which allow you to control the contents without opening it.

In the event that during the flight you cannot do without medicines in liquid form, they should be presented to the security personnel during personal searches and check of hand luggage. After they have been checked by technical means of examination for the detection of explosives, you can take them on the plane with you. The same goes for those personal hygiene products that you may need during the flight. Their volume is limited to 100 ml, but medicines and baby food can be carried on board in any reasonable amount.

All liquids should be packed in a transparent plastic bag with a fastener, the total volume of which should not exceed 1 liter. Each passenger may only carry one such package. After passing through security, you have the right to purchase drinks, perfumes, etc. in the duty-free area of the airport. But at the same time, in order for you to be allowed to take purchases on the flight, their packaging should not be broken and the receipt for the goods was attached and kept until the end of the flight.

Rules for the carriage of liquids at foreign airports

Most international airports outside the Russian Federation also have similar restrictions. Those. liquids and gels up to 100 ml are free to carry in your carry-on baggage, while larger quantities may need to be packed in your baggage. In 2014, the European Union plans to install special scanning devices at airports that detect any hazardous and explosive substances, including those transported in liquid form. After the introduction of such a technique, there will be no sense in restrictions on the transport of liquids, and they are planned to be removed.
