Singapore is an amazing city-state built on a small area on the islands. Many people know about the existence of this Asian country, which has achieved unprecedented success in the economy and urban planning, but many people have a vague idea of where Singapore is located and what it borders on. In addition, it is difficult to find it on the map, because it is one of the smallest states in the world.

Geographical location of Singapore

Singapore occupies one large island and several nearby islets. The main island has an area of more than six hundred square kilometers, it is forty-two kilometers long, and its width is about twenty-three kilometers, the shape of the island is diamond-shaped. The island is called Pulau Ujong; it is separated from the Malacca Peninsula in the southern part of Indochina by the narrow Strait of Johor, which is just over one kilometer wide. Singapore is separated from the islands of Indonesia by the Singapore Strait, which runs between the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea. The rest of the country's islands are located nearby, mainly on the southern side of Pulau Ujong.

The largest islands after the main island of Singapore are called Ubin, Semakau, Sentosa, Brani, Sudong.

Singapore's distance to the equator is only one hundred and forty kilometers. The total territory of Singapore is a little more than seven hundred square kilometers, the population density in the state is high, so the government is seeking to expand the country's territory through land reclamation projects. Thus, from the middle of the twentieth century, the area has already been increased from five hundred and eighty square kilometers. Singapore's new project proposes that by 2030 the state's area will increase by another hundred square kilometers as a result of the merger of several small islands with Pulau Ujong.

Singapore is a city-state, so all of the above also applies to Singapore as a city. But in fact, the urbanized area is located mainly on the island of Pulau Ujong.

The rest of the islands are nature reserves and reservoir parks.

Bordering states

Singapore has no land borders with any country, as it is an island state. The islands are washed by the South China Sea and are its border. The country has maritime borders with Malaysia, located on the Malay Peninsula and the northern part of Kalimantan, east of Singapore, and with Indonesia, which occupies several large islands in the South China Sea, including most of Kalimantan. South of Singapore on the Indochina peninsula are Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, to the southeast - the Philippines.
