A sleeping bag is a convenient and functional thing, indispensable for spending the night in the country or for trips to nature. In any travel store or on the Internet, you can choose and purchase such a bag, but you can sew it yourself, in this case you can not only save money, but also choose the material of the most suitable color for it.

It is necessary

  • Soft cotton fabric 90 cm wide - 3.6 m;
  • waterproof fabric or fabric with water-repellent impregnation 90 cm wide - 3.6 m;
  • a detachable zipper with a length of 2, 5 - 2, 6 m;
  • non-woven fabric 90 cm wide - 10, 8 m.

Instructions

Step 1

Cut a piece of soft cotton fabric in half into two equal pieces of 1, 8 meters long, sew them along the length, iron the seam from the inside, turning the edges to the sides. This will be the inside of your sleeping bag. When choosing a fabric for it, keep in mind that it is better to use not very easily soiled colors, since most often the bag is used in hiking conditions, where it can quickly get dirty.

Step 2

Also cut the second piece of waterproof or soaked cloth in half into two 1, 8 meter long pieces, sew both pieces along the long side. Sew both pieces of different fabrics together, on the side where the middle seam is. This will be the top edge of your sleeping bag.

Step 3

Cut the flizelin into six pieces, each 1, 8 meters long. Stack them in two piles of three layers each.

Step 4

Place seams of waterproof fabric and soft cloth on the floor with the seams facing up. Wrap a soft cloth, and on a piece of waterproof cloth across the seam, place both stacks of interlining layers next to each other, butt joint. Take a thread with a needle and baste the non-woven fabric to the fabric layer, securing it around the perimeter and in several places inside so that the non-woven layers are securely fixed to the fabric surface.

Step 5

Unfold a piece of soft fabric and place it on top of the non-woven fabric so that the seam running in the middle is across the two stacks of non-woven layers laid side by side. Baste the fabric around the perimeter and inside with coarse stitches.

Step 6

Take a sewing machine and, stepping back 20 cm from the upper edge of the sleeping bag, sew 8 lines parallel to it with large stitches. Remove all the basting.

Step 7

Fold the resulting quilted square in half along the middle seam, tuck the edges, and sew in the zipper from the fold along both edges.
