Svyato-Pafnutyev Borovsky Monastery was founded in the 15th century. The founder of the monastery, the Monk Paphnutius, was a spiritual figure for many famous people of that time. Over the years, Tsars Ivan the Terrible and Fyodor Ivanovich, princes Volkonsky and others came to the monastery. Now the Borovsky Monastery began to receive even more pilgrims after the victory in the show "The Voice" of Hieromonk Photius, who is a novice of the monastery.
Unfortunately, the fate of the Borovsky Monastery is similar to the fate of the majority of Russian monasteries. In Soviet times, the monastery was plundered and used for other purposes. And during the Second World War it was practically destroyed. A new life in the monastery began in 1991. From that time on, the revival of the monastery began. Now the monastery has been completely restored, regular services are held there, and active educational work is underway.
Svyato-Pafnutyev Monastery is located 120 kilometers from Moscow in the Borovsky District of the Kaluga Region. By car, you need to go along the Kiev highway towards Kaluga. Drive until the turn to Balabanovo, turn, go to the sign for Borovsk. Having reached the village of Ermolino, turn left at the sign to Borovsk. Further, after driving a few kilometers, turn off at the sign to the monastery. It is difficult to get lost there, everywhere there are signs either to Borovsk or to the monastery itself.
You can also get to the Borovsky Monastery by train. From the Kievsky railway station, take an electric train to the Balabanovo station. Then you need to take a bus or a fixed-route taxi to the station "Grove" or "Ryabushki". It takes longer to go from the Ryabushki station, but along an asphalt road. If you get off at the Grove station, you will have to go down the path through the forest.
